Family Faith
There will be six (6) sessions this year (listed below).  The sessions will be held on Sundays in the hall at Sacred Heart Church from 9:30AM to Noon.
If you are unable to attend a session, please call the Faith Formation Office at 252-3439 to notify us.
     February 12,  March 11

Service is an important part of our faith journey and families are expected to do service as a regular part of their lives.  As part of your child’s faith formation, we are asking each family to participate in at least two service projects during the year.  These may be projects offered through the parish, such as the Holiday Plant Delivery (sign up sheets available at sessions), or projects of your own choosing.  Please let us know your plans for the year at your earliest convenience.

Looking forward to seeing you in the fall and sharing our journey of faith

Sacred Heart, St. Ann’s, and St. Mary’s offer three (3) different models of faith formation.

 SUMMER PROGRAM
We offer two – two week programs – one in July and the other in August.  These sessions are held at Sacred Heart.  This year (2011) the dates will be:
Session Two: August 15-19 and August 22-26

Each day the classes are from 8:30AM to Noon with time allowed for a short recess.  Children are
asked to bring their own snack and beverage due to the allergies that many children have.

A majority of our teachers are certified teachers at local schools during the school year, so are very well equipped to teach and handle a classroom.

We use the RCL textbooks – Faith First – for all of our classes and offer music classes during the sessions.  All the teachers and students gather each day at 11AM for prayer and on the last day of classes, parents are invited to attend prayer and a concert or play where the songs the children have learned are performed.

During the two week session three different service projects are offered for the children to participate in.  Ongoing involvement in some type of service is also expected of all of the children.

Because this is such a short term program, families are asked to choose from a variety of options to continue their Faith Formation throughout the year.  A sample menu is available on this web site.

FAMILY FAITH
For this program, families meet once a month on the second Sunday of each month from September through March from 9:30-11:30AM at Sacred Heart’s Church Hall.  The RCL Faith First textbooks are used throughout the program with the Faith Formation Director teaching one or two of the chapters at the gatherings and families doing the remaining chapters at home and e-mailing quiz results to the Director.

HOME STUDY
This is a program for those families whose schedules make it impossible to attend either of the above programs.  Again the RCL textbook Faith First is used and families read the chapters and do the activities at home.  Upon completion of each chapter, the children take a short quiz on line and e-mail the results to the Director of Faith Formation.

Service of some type is a required component of this program as well as attendance at two gatherings a year to review progress and share learning experiences.

OTHER OPTIONS
Sacred Heart, St. Ann’s, and St. Mary’s will also accept attendance at any of the Faith Formation Classes at any of the Catholic Churches in Auburn.  The only requirement is that you notify the Director of Faith Formation at Sacred Heart, St. Ann’s and St. Mary’s.

ADULT EDUCATION
Bible Study is offered at Sacred Heart at 9:30AM on Thursday mornings in the Faith Formation Office.

REGISTRATION
Registration forms for Confirmation, First Penance, First Eucharist, the Summer Program, Family Faith, and Home Study are available on this web site.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION

CONFIRMATION

Confirmation at Sacred Heart, St. Ann’s, and St. Mary’s is based on readiness, which means that a child is expected to attend mass on a regular basis, to have completed a faith formation program, and to be actively involved in some type of service.

The Information Meeting for Confirmation is held in September each year. The Candidate and at least one parent are expected to attend. This meeting is followed by a Parent/Sponsor Meeting and then by four (4) Candidate/Sponsor meetings that are held in consecutive weeks. Within two weeks of the completion of the program, the Confirmation celebration is held in October this year.

FIRST PENANCE

According to church guidelines, preparation for First Penance is to take place prior to the reception of First Eucharist.  All children from second grade on up who have not received this sacrament are invited to participate in our preparation.

First Penance preparation begins in February.  There are two parent meetings and a family retreat.  At the two meetings information and material will be distributed to assist parents in preparing their children for First Penance.  The preparation will end with the Family Retreat.  During the preparation, there will be sign up sheets available for the normal Saturday afternoon celebration of the Sacrament of Penance at each church.  Children and their families are invited to celebrate the Sacrament at the time they select.  Parents are encouraged to celebrate the sacrament first to provide a good example for their children.

FIRST EUCHARIST

As in all sacraments, preparation for First Eucharist is based on readiness with the requirements being: completion of at least one year of Faith Formation, at least seven (7) years of age, and regular attendance at Mass each weekend.

Preparation consists of one parent meeting and a family retreat.  At the meeting information and material will be distributed to assist parents in preparing their children for the Sacrament of First Eucharist.  The preparation will be concluded with a Family Retreat.  The celebration of the Sacrament will take place during our regular Mass schedule at designated times.

NEWS AND NOTES

 SUMMER SERVICE PROJECTS 2010

The children in our summer program were on fire this year.  Through their families generosity we were able to adopt seven (6) children from the Dominican Republic.  For $120 per child per year, the adopted child is provided with breakfast and lunch each day and school supplies!!  Awesome show of love and care!!!!

For our second service project we collected over 299 canned and boxed food for the food pantry!

For our third project in the first session, $77.70 was collected for Muscular Dystrophy; and in the second session 92 items were collected for the Migrant Ministry.

 VOLUNTEERS

As with any ministry, without volunteers nothing would get done!!!  If you have any time – even an hour to help – it would be greatly appreciated!
